Local Government Closing Down Mumbai Bourse Due To Corona Cases Rise
Readers should be aware that Mumbai’s Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) has been closed down until further notice by the Maharashtra state government due to growing numbers of COVID-19 cases.
Maharashtra has imposed the restrictions as of 20.00 local time on Monday.
BDB management has requested its members to collect critical belongings on Monday and turn off their water and electricity services.
Maharashtra authorities on Sunday announced 57,000 cases in the state which has a population of 100 million. The figures are the highest for a single day since the start of the pandemic a year ago.
BDB management first closed the bourse down in March last following the first COVID-19 outbreaks.
The diamond industry has steadily reopened, and many polishing plants, particularly in Surat, have been operating at full capacity in recent months.
